The objective of this course is to analyze the economic successes and failures of regional and urban areas.

Determinants of the location choices of individuals and firms are analyzed at the local scale (inside cities) and at the regional/national one.

Advantages and drawbacks of the agglomeration of activities (urban growth, pollution, provision of public goods, spatial inequalities, crime) as well as urban changes (smart city, compact city) are successively studied.

This course ends with sessions in computer classroom, where students work with the softwares R and QGIS. The objective is to learn how to represent economic data with maps and to tackle the econometric problems encountered in spatial analysis.
